I entered the US Naval Academy from a SecNav appointment, having joined the USNR 15 months earlier. I graduated in June, 1955. From there it was flight school in Pensacola and Corpus Christi.  From VR-21 I went through a RAG and qualified in the S2F, on to VS-29 in North Island, San Diego, CA and flying off the USS Kearsarge. I eventually logged 150 carrier landings. I proceeded from there to Corpus Christi, TX where I ended my flying career. I was transferred to Kingsville NAAS for my last year in the Navy. Total service 16 years, 11 commissioned, 15 months enlisted reserve.
Oops!  As a flight instructor at Corpus Christi NAS, Texas I didn't quite   recover from a student's error. The good news is, I survived, but it ended my Navy career.

After graduation my first duty station  aboard the USS Stoddard, DD566 out of San Diego, CA. I took 2 Far East cruises aboard. This picture is a sister ship.
My first duty station after flight school was VR-21 out of Barber's Point, HI.  Why would the Navy send a qualified ASW officer to a transport squadron?  Who knows?
